- The Edo shogunate introduced the Genna Military Service Order in 1616 to make military service compulsory to the daimyos and the hatamotos, in order to maintain this system, the hatamotos were required to be stationed permanently in Edo (Jofu), except under special assignments, and in 1635, the daimyos were governed under the Sankinkotai system (amendment of the Buke shohatto, or the code of warrior households), in which the lords were required to reside in Edo in alternate years, instead of stationing permanently in Edo.

- In 1878, Gaimukyo (chief of Foreign Ministry) Munenori TERASHIMA negotiated mainly for the recovery of tariff autonomy, backed by the financial difficulty after the Seinan War, and Minister-Counselor to the United States Kiyonari YOSHIDA and EVERTS Secretary of State of the United States signed a new treaty of the recovery of tariff rights (YOSHIDA-EVERTS Treaty), but it was failed because of the objection of England and Germany and the public opinions that required the recovery of jurisdiction to be prioritized (the treaty with the United States did not come into effect because it was conditional on conclusion of similar treaties with the other countries).

- When a Foreign Bank (in the case where the Foreign Bank has a Branch Office of the Foreign Bank, that Branch Office of the Foreign Bank; hereinafter the same shall apply in this Article) intends to establish a representative office or any other facility in Japan in order to carry out any of the following business activities (including cases where the Foreign Bank intends to carry out that business at an office or other facility already established for another purpose), it shall notify the Prime Minister in advance about the contents of those business activities, the location of the facility where those business activities will be carried out, and other matters specified by Cabinet Office Ordinance:
- 弁護士法人は、その法律事務所に、当該法律事務所の所在する地域の弁護士会(その地域に二個以上の弁護士会があるときは、当該弁護士法人の所属弁護士会。以下この条において同じ。)の会員である社員を常駐させなければならない。ただし、従たる法律事務所については、当該法律事務所の所在する地域の弁護士会が当該法律事務所の周辺における弁護士の分布状況その他の事情を考慮して常駐しないことを許可したときは、この限りでない。
- A Legal Professional Corporation shall assign to each of its law offices, on a permanent basis, a member who belongs to the bar association of the district in which the law office is located (here and hereinafter in this Article, if there are two or more bar associations in that district, the member must belong to the bar association to which the Legal Professional Corporation belongs); provided, however, that the foregoing shall not apply to secondary offices if the bar association of the district in which such secondary law office is located decides not to require such an assignment after taking into consideration the distribution of attorneys in the vicinity of said secondary office and other factors.

- When a Foreign Bank (in the case where the Foreign Bank has a Foreign Bank Branch, that Foreign Bank Branch; hereinafter the same shall apply in this Article) intends to establish a representative office or any other facility in Japan in order to carry out any of the following businesses (including cases where the Foreign Bank intends to carry out that business at an office or other facility already established for another purpose), it shall notify the Prime Minister in advance about the contents of that business, the location of the facility where that business will be carried out, and other matters specified by a Cabinet Office Ordinance:
- 毎年高卒者を多く採用する産業で、駐屯地で寄宿生活を行う自衛官や全寮制の訓練機関(海上保安大学校、防衛大学校など)、祝祭日が書き入れ時となる百貨店、スーパーマーケット、外食産業などの小売業や鉄道、観光バスなどの運輸事業、及び業務の性格上交代勤務が多い製鉄、化学工業、繊維、紙、自動車工業などの製造業、電力・都市ガス・電話局などでは、成人の日も勤務となる従業員が多く、市町村が行う成人式に参加できない人も当然多くいる。
- In the case of workers in industries that hire many high school graduates every year, such as retail industries including department stores, supermarkets and restaurants, and the transport industry including railways, sightseeing buses, etc. that make profits on holidays, manufacturing industries including iron manufacturing, chemical industry, textile industry, paper industry and automobile industry in which employees work different shifts due to business characteristics, workers in public services such as electricity, city gas and telephone, Self-Defense Officials who live in a dormitory at a Camp, and trainees at residential training institutions (Japan Coast Guard Academy, National Defense Academy, etc.), many of them have to work even on the Coming-of-Age Day, and obviously cannot participate in the Seijin-shiki ceremony held by municipalities.

- ARTICLE III. The government of Japan shall be represented at the Court of His Majesty the Emperor of Corea by a Resident General, who shall reside at Seoul, primarily for the purpose of taking charge of and directing matters relating to diplomatic affairs; He shall have the right of private and personal audience of His Majesty the Emperor of Corea; The Japanese Government shall also have the right to station Residents at the several open ports and such other places in Corea as they may deem necessary; Such Residents shall, under the direction of the Resident General, exercise the powers and functions hitherto appertaining to Japanese Consuls in Corea and shall perform such duties as may be necessary in order to carry into full effect the provisions of this Agreement.

- a director, executive officer, accounting advisor, or company auditor who has received a dismissal order pursuant to the provisions of Article 44(2) or Article 45(2), a Representative in Japan or a resident officer of a branch office who has received a dismissal order pursuant to the provisions of Article 59(2) or Article 60(2), an officer who has received a dismissal order pursuant to the provisions of Article 82(2), or a director, executive officer, accounting advisor, company auditor, or a person equivalent thereto who has received a dismissal order pursuant to the provisions of laws and regulations of a foreign state that are equivalent to this Act, where five years have yet to elapse since the date of receipt of said disposition; or

- 内閣総理大臣は、金融商品取引業者の役員(外国法人にあつては、国内における営業所若しくは事務所に駐在する役員又は国内における代表者に限る。以下この項及び次条第二項において同じ。)が、第二十九条の四第一項第二号イからトまでのいずれかに該当することとなつたとき、第二十九条の登録当時既に同号イからトまでのいずれかに該当していたことが判明したとき、又は前項第六号若しくは第八号から第十号までのいずれかに該当することとなつたときは、当該金融商品取引業者に対して、当該役員の解任を命ずることができる。
- When an Officer of a Financial Instruments Business Operator (with regard to a foreign juridical person, limited to Officers stationed at business offices or offices in Japan or representative persons in Japan; hereinafter the same shall apply in this paragraph and paragraph (2) of the following Article) comes to fall under any of Article 29-4(1)(ii)(a) to (g), is found to fall under any of (a) to (g) of said item at the time of registration under Article 29, or comes to fall under any of item (vi) or item (viii) to (x) of the preceding paragraph, the Prime Minister may order said Financial Instruments Business Operator to dismiss said Officer.
- 外国信託会社については信託会社とみなし、管理型外国信託会社については管理型信託会社とみなし、外国信託会社の国内における代表者及び支店に駐在する役員(監査役又はこれに準ずる者を除く。)については信託会社の取締役とみなして、第二章の規定(第三条から第十条まで、第十二条、第十四条第二項、第十七条から第二十一条まで、第三十二条、第三十五条から第四十二条まで、第四十四条、第四十五条及び第四十九条から第五十二条までの規定を除く。)及びこれらの規定に係る第七章の規定を適用する。この場合において、次の表の上欄に掲げる規定中同表の中欄に掲げる字句は、同表の下欄に掲げる字句とする。
- The provisions of Chapter II (excluding the provisions of Article 3 to Article 10 inclusive, Article 12, Article 14(2), Article 17 to Article 21 inclusive, Article 32, Article 35 to Article 42 inclusive, Article 44, Article 45, and Article 49 to Article 52 inclusive) and the provisions of Chapter VII pertaining to these provisions shall apply by deeming a Foreign Trust Company to be a Trust Company, an Custodian Type Foreign Trust Company to be an Custodian Type Trust Company, and a Foreign Trust Company's Representative in Japan and the resident officer of a branch office thereof (excluding a company auditor or a person equivalent thereto) to be a director of a Trust Company. In this case, the terms and phrases listed in the middle column of the following table in the provisions listed in the left-hand column of the same table shall be deemed to be replaced with the terms and phrases listed in the right-hand column of said table.
- 外国証券業者(有価証券関連業と密接な関係を有する業を行う者で内閣府令で定めるものを含む。以下この条において同じ。)又は外国で投資助言業務若しくは投資運用業を行う者(第二十九条又は第三十三条の二の登録を受けた者を除く。以下この条において同じ。)は、有価証券及び有価証券に係る金融指標の市場に関する情報の収集及び提供その他金融商品取引等に関連のある業務で内閣府令で定めるものを行うため、国内において駐在員事務所その他の施設を設置しようとする場合(他の目的をもつて設置している施設において当該業務を行おうとする場合を含む。)には、あらかじめ、当該業務の内容、当該施設の所在の場所その他内閣府令で定める事項を内閣総理大臣に届け出なければならない。
- A Foreign Securities Broker (including those whose business is closely related to Securities-Related Business and those which are specified by a Cabinet Office Ordinance; hereinafter the same shall apply in this Article) or a person who conducts Investment Advisory Business or Investment Management Business in a foreign state (excluding persons registered under Article 29 or Article 33-2; hereinafter the same shall apply in this Article) shall, when it intends to establish a representative office or any other institution in Japan for the purposes of collection or provision of information regarding the securities market and the market of financial indicator of the Securities, or to conduct other business related to financial instruments business, etc. which are specified by a Cabinet Office Ordinance (including the cases where said Foreign Securities Broker intends to conduct said business in the institution established for other purposes), notify the contents of said business, the location of said facility and other matters specified by a Cabinet Office Ordinance to the Prime Minister in advance.
