- My policy on money is like this. When I do not have it, I cannot use it, and when I have it, I do not waste it. Whether I use a large sum of money or little, I will never borrow it from people. When I do not want to use it, I do not use it, and when I want to use it, I use it. I have never sought someone's advice about whether or not to use it. I do not want to be instructed by anyone about that. When I am rich or poor, or when I am having a hard time or an easy time, I am always independent. Whatever happens, I have never grumbled to someone about it and always kept calm, which might have made people believe that I am rich.'
- 裁判所は、死刑又は無期若しくは長期三年を超える懲役若しくは禁錮に当たる事件以外の事件について、即決裁判手続の申立てがあつたときは、第百七十七条の規定にかかわらず、遅滞なく、被告人に対し、弁護人を選任することができる旨及び貧困その他の事由により弁護人を選任することができないときは弁護人の選任を請求することができる旨のほか、弁護人がなければ法第三百五十条の八の手続を行う公判期日及び即決裁判手続による公判期日を開くことができない旨をも知らせなければならない。ただし、被告人に弁護人があるときは、この限りでない。
- With regard to a case other than one punishable by the death penalty, life imprisonment, or imprisonment with or without work for more than three years, if a motion for an expedited trial procedure has been filed, notwithstanding the provisions of Article 177, the court shall, without delay, inform the accused to the effect that the accused may appoint defense counsel, and that he/she may file a request for defense counsel to be appointed if he/she is unable to do so due to indigence or on any other grounds, and that trial dates for carrying out the proceedings set forth in Article 350-8 of the Code and trial dates for the expedited trial procedure may not be held in the absence of defense counsel; provided, however, that this shall not apply when the accused has secured defense counsel.
- 検察官は、第三十七条の二第一項に規定する事件について前項の規定により弁護人を選任することができる旨を告げるに当たつては、被疑者に対し、引き続き勾留を請求された場合において貧困その他の事由により自ら弁護人を選任することができないときは裁判官に対して弁護人の選任を請求することができる旨並びに裁判官に対して弁護人の選任を請求するには資力申告書を提出しなければならない旨及びその資力が基準額以上であるときは、あらかじめ、弁護士会(第三十七条の三第二項の規定により第三十一条の二第一項の申出をすべき弁護士会をいう。)に弁護人の選任の申出をしていなければならない旨を教示しなければならない。
- When the public prosecutor informs the suspect of the fact that the suspect may appoint defense counsel in accordance with the provision of the preceding paragraph for the case provided for in paragraph (1) of Article 37-2, he/she shall also enlighten the suspect that, in cases where a request for further detention of the suspect is made, the suspect may request the judge to appoint defense counsel when the suspect is unable to appoint defense counsel him/herself because of indigence or other reasons and that when requesting the judge for appointment of defense counsel the suspect must submit a report of financial resources; or if the suspect's resources are equal to or above the base amount, the suspect must have first requested a bar association (the bar association to which the request of paragraph (1) of Article 31-2 in accordance with paragraph (2) of Article 37-3 is to be made) to appoint defense counsel.

- 刑事訴訟法(昭和二十三年法律第百三十一号)第六十四条、第七十三条第一項前段及び第三項、第七十四条並びに第七十六条第一項本文及び第二項の規定(勾引に関する部分に限る。)は、第二項又は第三項の引致状及びこれらの規定による保護観察対象者の引致について準用する。この場合において、同法第六十四条第一項中「罪名、公訴事実の要旨」とあり、同法第七十三条第三項中「公訴事実の要旨」とあり、及び同法第七十六条第一項本文中「公訴事実の要旨及び弁護人を選任することができる旨並びに貧困その他の事由により自ら弁護人を選任することができないときは弁護人の選任を請求することができる旨」とあるのは「引致の理由」と、同法第六十四条第一項中「裁判長又は受命裁判官」とあるのは「裁判官」と、同法第七十四条中「刑事施設」とあるのは「刑事施設又は少年鑑別所」と、同法第七十六条第二項中「合議体の構成員又は裁判所書記」とあるのは「地方更生保護委員会が引致した場合においては委員又は保護観察官、保護観察所の長が引致した場合においては保護観察官」と読み替えるものとする。
- The provisions of Article 64, the first sentence of paragraph (1) and paragraph (3) of Article 73, Article 74, the main clause of paragraph (1) and paragraph (2) (which shall be limited to the part relating to subpoenas) of Article 76 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (Act No. 131 of 1948) shall apply mutatis mutandis to the warrant of arrest under paragraph (2) or (3) and the apprehending of the probationers and parolees pursuant to the provisions of these paragraphs. In this case, the terms 'the crime, a summary of the charged facts' in paragraph (1) of Article 64 of said Code, 'a summary of the charged facts' in paragraph (3) of Article 73 of said Code, and 'a summary of the charged facts, that he/she has the right to appoint counsel, and that, when he/she is unable to appoint counsel him/herself because of indigence or other reasons, he/she is entitled to request the court to appoint counsel instead' in the main clause of paragraph (1) of Article 76 of said Code shall be deemed to be replaced with 'the reason for apprehending', the terms 'the presiding judge or the commissioned judge' in paragraph (1) of Article 64 of said Code shall be deemed to be replaced with 'the judge', the term 'penal institution' in Article 74 of said Code shall be deemed to be replaced with 'penal institution or juvenile classification home', the term 'a judge of a collegiate panel or a court clerk' in paragraph (2) of Article 76 of said Code shall be deemed to be replaced with 'a Board member or a probation officer if apprehended by the Regional Parole Board or a probation officer if apprehended by the director of the probation office'.
