- 特に太政官においては五位以上の官人から犯罪者が出た場合にこれを処分する「罪名定」と呼ばれる陣定が行われ、その際に決して律令に精通しているとは言い難い天皇もしくは摂関以下の公卿から当該事件に適用すべき罪名(犯罪の名称とそれに対応する刑罰)に関する諮問が明法博士ら明法家に対して行われ、これに対して明法家は明法勘文の提示を行った。

- 結婚後は歴史の表舞台に一切名を残さなかったせいか、病弱説や離婚説、奥を取り仕切るだけの器量がなかったなどという評価がなされる事があったが、実際は信長の閨房における醜聞が一切表に出ずきちんと取り仕切られていたことから、決して無能な女性ではなく一正室多側室多愛妾多伽係という当時の奥制度をきちんと管理出来る女性だったと考えられる。
- Because she did not earn her place in history after she married, it has often been considered she was poor in health or divorced, or even incapable of managing concubines and other female attendants of the castle; in fact, it can be assumed that she was indeed an able woman who could manage the O-oku system at the time, in which a shogun had one lawful wife and many other concubines and lovers, because Nobunaga's scandals related to his bedrooms never came out and were well managed.
- やがて天皇宿舎付近へ迫るも、それまでの警備とは段違いな警護の前に天皇の奪還を断念、傍にあった桜の木へ「天莫空勾践 時非無范蠡」(天は古代中国の越王・勾践に対するように、決して帝をお見捨てにはなりません。きっと范蠡の如き忠臣が現れ、必ずや帝をお助けする事でしょう)という漢詩を彫り書き入れ、その意志と共に天皇を勇気付けたという。
- Although he got close to the room where the Emperor was, he had to give up his plan of the recapture because of heavier guard and so he carved a message of a Chinese poem '天莫空勾践 時非無范蠡' (which means 'as gods saved King Goujian of Yue, so they will never give up on you, and some faithful retainers like Fan Li shall come to save you' in English) on a nearby cherry tree to deliver his will and to encourage the Emperor.
- 天皇は後に、「それが実は、あの詔書の一番の目的であって、神格とかそういうことは二の問題でした。(中略)民主主義を採用したのは明治大帝の思召しである。しかも神に誓われた。そうして五箇条御誓文を発して、それが基となって明治憲法ができたんで、民主主義というものは決して輸入物ではないということを示す必要が大いにあったと思います。」と語っている。
- The emperor said later 'actually it was the purpose of the edict, so the divinity or other things came next. (snip) it was the emperor Meiji who adopted democracy. He also swore to God and issued Charter Oath of Five Articles, by which Meiji Constitution was made, so I think it was necessary to show that democracy was not imported.'
- 然るに、三十三年八月、築地のメトロポールホテルに於て、竹越与三郎氏の洋行送別会を開きたる時、来客代る代る起ちて演説を試みたりしが、其の際、小松緑氏起ちて、ハイカラーといふに就いて一場の演説を試み、世間多くは、ハイカラーを嘲笑の意味(p67/p68)に用ゆれども、決して左には非ず、ハイカラーは文明的にして、其の人物の清く高きを顕はすものなり。
- However, on August, 1990 in a farewell party for Yosaburo TAKEKOSHI, who is going to Europe, one of the guest speakers, Midori KOMATSU stood and made a funny speech about being haikara, in which he said that a majority of the world were using the word haikara as a meaning of derision (pp.67-68), but it was not true, rather it meant being civilized or a clean, noble character of a person.
- しかしながら帝都復興事業が行われた区域は震災の大火災によって灰燼と化した地域に限定されており、そもそも江戸の情緒を残す町並みはほとんど残されていなかったこと、震災前の東京は交通や衛生など現在にも共通する多くの都市問題を抱えていたことなどを考慮すると、「江戸の情緒を喪失させた」という批判は決して的を射ているとは言えないものであろうとする意見もある。
- Still, some would argue against this criticism saying 'eliminating the traditional atmosphere of the Edo period' is irrelevant considering the following points; the areas rebuilt under the Reconstruction Project of the Imperial Capital were limited to those areas which were reduced to ashes by the great fire after the earthquake, so there retained little atmosphere of the Edo culture; and the Tokyo city before the Great Earthquake had full of urban problems similar to today, such as traffic and hygienic problems.
- 貧しき者、卑しき者、世に虐げられた者が幸いなるものであること、富める者が天の王国に入るより、駱駝が針の目を通り抜けるほうが容易なこと、自分が裁かれないようにするには、裁いてはならないこと、決して誓ってはならないこと、自分を愛するように、隣人を愛すべきこと、人が外套を取るなら、上着も与えるべきこと、明日のことを思い煩ってはいけないこと、全き人にならんとすれば、持てる物をすべて売り払い、貧しき人に与えるべきこと、こうしたことは、すべてのキリスト教徒が信じていることです。
- All Christians believe that the blessed are the poor and humble, and those who are ill-used by the world;that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven;that they should judge not, lest they be judged;that they should swear not at all;that they should love their neighbour as themselves;that if one take their cloak, they should give him their coat also;that they should take no thought for the morrow;that if they would be perfect, they should sell all that they have and give it to the poor.
