- 江戸幕府8代将軍徳川吉宗は、すでに西日本では飢饉の際の救荒作物として知られていた甘藷(サツマイモ)の栽培を昆陽に命じ、小石川薬園(小石川植物園)と下総国千葉郡馬加村(現在の千葉市花見川区幕張)と上総国山辺郡不動堂村(現在の千葉県山武郡九十九里町)とで試作させている。
- The 8th general of the Edo bakufu (Japanese feudal government headed by a shogun) Yoshimune TOKUGAWA had already ordered Konyo to cultivate the known sweet potato as an emergency crop at the famine in West Japan, and make trial pieces in the Koishikawa Medicine Garden (Koishikawa Botanical Gardens), Makuwari-mura village in Chiba District of Shimousa Province (present Makuhari, Hanamigawa-ku Ward, Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture), and Fudodo Village in Yamabe County of Kazusa Province (present Kujukuri-cho, Sanbu-gun, Chiba Prefecture).

- Though there is a theory that doubts whether the sweet potatoes made by Konyo for trial purposes led directly to the spread in Kanto, as pointed out by Nobuhiro SATO (refer to the 'Konyo and Nobuhiro SATO' mentioned later), it is a fact that Konyo had gotten fame because of the sweet potatoes in the same period, and was called 'Sweet Potato Teacher' by future generations.
- いずれにしても、昆陽の試作が、幕府(町奉行)が行った本格的な試作であったこと、「蕃薯考」が出版され、栽培の普及を意図したこと、この試作以降、薩摩芋を幕府が救荒作物として考えるようになったことなどから、この試作が、薩摩芋の関東への普及にとって画期的な事件であったと位置づけられている。

- December 3, 643, a son of SOGA no Toyura no emishi no omi, Iruka no omi □□ Hayashi no Tairo killed YAMASHIRO no oe and 15 of his followers and family members in Ikarugano-miya palace.
- また、切実に求められた医学の分野では出島オランダ商館医に指導を受けた通詞の家のいくつかが紅毛外科(こうもう げか)と称する和洋折衷の医学を一子相伝的に伝える流派を生み出すのみであり、幕府は漢文学者であった野呂元丈、青木昆陽らを招聘して対策に当たらせたが単語700余りを書き留めるに終わってしまった。
- Also in the desperately-needed medical field, only some translators, trained by the doctors working for the Dutch trading houses in Dejima, put out schools that brought down a branch of medical science, a blending of Japanese and western styles of medical techniques, called Koumougeka (紅毛外科) (red hair surgery) by heredity, and although the Edo bakufu called on some Chinese classical literary people such as Genjo NORO and Konyo AOKI to solve the issue, they could only wrote down some 700 words.

- Therefore, where Oharae no kotoba today reads 'Amatsu tsumi Kunitsu tsumi and many other such crimes come forth' it originally read 'Amatsu tsumi and ahanachi, mizoume, hihanachi, shikimaki, kushisashi, ikihagi, sakahagi, kusohe, and many other crimes; by declaring separately from Amatsu tsumi, Kunitsu tsumi and ikihadadachi; shinihadadachi; shirahito; kokumi; a charge of raping his own mother, raping his own child, raping a mother and its child, raping a child and its mother, raping animals; woes by crawling insects, takatsu kami, and takatsu tori; Kemonotaoshi, a crime of doing Majimono; and many other such crimes come forth.'
