- He served as the Minister of Agriculture for more than three years in the wartime Cabinet during the Sino-Japanese War, when the replacement of the Cabinet members was frequently made; it was the longest term in the history of the Ministry of Agriculture, so it may be a proof of ENOMOTO's extraordinary abilities, with which he was given important posts to maintain the balance among factions made of former bakufu clans.

- Although Goshirakawa hesitated, Tsunemune proposed senji saying 'At present, Yoshitsune is the only one military commander in Kyoto. If you oppose his proposal and he rebels, who can fight back? Therefore, you should issue senji as requested.' and chaired the ceremony for the senji to subjugate Yoritomo (Article for the same day in 'Gyokuyo').
- 曹洞宗の坐禅は公案に拠らず、ただ、ひたすら坐る(只管打坐)ことがそのまま本来の自己を現じている(修証不二)としているが公案そのものを否定しているわけではなく、また、法系によっては公案を用いる流れも存在する。
- It insists that the mediation of the Soto sect does not depend on koan and that devoting oneself to seating (Shikantaza) shows the original self (shushofuji (practice and enlightenment are not separated but combined as if they are one)), but it does not deny koan itself, and some schools actually use koan.

- In February 1470, right in the middle of the Onin War, Noriyuki OUCHI planned a rebellion against Masahiro OUCHI in Suo no kuni (Suo Prefecture, currently Yamaguchi Prefecture) who was away fighting in Kyoto at the time, getting on his side people including Takemori NAITO, Moriyasu NIHO, Nobuyori YOSHIMI and Kazukane SUFU, through Chikashige OTOMO and Katsumoto HOSOKAWA of the Eastern alliance which was attacking the family estate.
- 拙者親方と申すは、御立会の内に御存知の御方も御座りましょうが、御江戸を発って二十里上方、相州小田原市一色町を御過ぎなされて、青物町を上りへ御出でなさるれば、欄干橋虎屋藤右衛門、只今では剃髪致して圓斎と名乗りまする。
- My master is, I guess some of you already know, 78.54 km away from Edo in the direction of Kyoto, passing through Isshiki town, Odawara City, Sagami Province, then going further from Aomono town toward Kyoto, there he lives, Rankanbashi Toraya Toemon, now he is tonsured and calls himself Ensai.

- In the Aizu Clan, the formal security force was the Kyoto Mimawarigumi (Commander = Tadazaburo SASAKI), and Shinsen-gumi (Commander = Isami KONDO), composed of men with the social position of farmers/merchants, was the non-formal security force of the Aizu Clan for the Kyoto area (in later years, KONDO and others became vassals of the shogunate, and thus Shinsen-gumi became a formal security force).
- 成仏とは一定のレベルに達することで完成するものではなく、たとえ成仏したとしても、さらなる成仏を求めて無限の修行を続けることこそが成仏の本質であり(修証一如)、釈迦に倣い、ただ坐禅にうちこむことが最高の修行である(只管打坐)と主張した。

- Ishizukuri takes an ordinary bowl which is revealed to be a fake; Kurumamochi has a craftsman make an imitation, which is also revealed because the craftsman shows up; What Abe has brought is supposed not to burn, but actually it does; Otomo gives up bringing the treasure because of the storm; Isonokami dies because he tries to take the shell climbing up the roof of a shed on which a big pot called Oyashima of the Oiryo (a part of the Imperial Household) is set.

Yoshino was fallen by Sadafuji NIKAIDO's massive force, he shouted in order to let the Imperial Prince Moriyoshi escape safely, 'I am Ippon Hyobukyo (Imperial Prince of the first rank, Minister for Military Affairs), Imperial Prince Moriyoshi, the second son of Emperor Godaigo who was the 95th generation from Emperor Jinmu, the descendant of Amaterasu Omikami (the Sun Goddess). Look at how I am going to kill myself now in order not to be overthrown by rebellious subjects and settle my grudge in the afterworld, and follow what I've done when you have to commit seppuku after using up your fortune of war.'

- It is said Naomasa was the only man Ieyasu, who didn't much like homosexuality, loved; though homosexuality was so common in samurai society at that time that it was regarded as one of a samurai's accomplishments, and being loved by a lord was the fastest way to advance (other examples include Nobunaga ODA and Toshiie MAEDA, Kagekatsu UESUGI and Naganori KIYONO, Masamune DATE and Shigetsuna KATAKURA/Sakujuro TADANO).

- In 1613, in the midst of performance of Noh play (the common men were also privileged to see) at the feast to celebrate the completion of reconstruction of the Great Buddha hall of Hoko-ji Temple held by Hideyori TOYOTOMI in the Kinri (Imperial Palace), Shigekata YOSHIOKA (who was allegedly on bad terms with Yazaemon TADAMI) was assaulted by an officer Yazaemon TADAMI who admonishing him for his attitude, and killed and wounded many persons including Tadami, before finally being killed by Kaneuji OTA who was a vassal of Katsushige ITAKURA, Kyoto shoshidai (the Kyoto deputy).
